- Greetings to those who now read this story.
-
- I am called Tryslora Eloran, and this is the beginning of the Annals of
- Dwarf and Company. I will tell you now that this work is written long after
- the events have happened, so some events may not come clearly in the writing.
- I am scribing from the sources of the early notes of my small friend Khyron,
- the journals of Marik Thelandarkin, and from my own memory. Some events have
- become hazy in my mind with time, but I have tried to record them as they
- seemed to me and my companions when they occurred. At the time, we often did
- not know things that I know now (is not that always the situation?) and I have
- tried to preserve our confusion in my records. Of course, some of the
- confusion does come from my hazy memory of the facts, so bear this in mind as
- well. The memories of even the most earth shattering events still fade with
- time.
-
- First, I will endevour to introduce you to the charter members of Dwarf
- and Company (long before we ever took that name), back when we first met,
- thanks to the efforts of Marik and Blackstaff.
-
- Our adventures took place in the Forgotten Realms. When we began, we
- totalled but 7 adventurers, and knew nothing of each other save our names and a
- little of our abilities.
-
- First, there was Malgrym Stonefist, a dwarven warrior who had been cast
- out of his lands to the north. Although he was young, he was the chosen ruler
- of his lands, and hoped to one day regain his lands from the orcs who had
- forced his people out. Malgrym was a very religious warrior, and wore special
- armor and a shield emblazoned with the seal of his god. He was also very
- stubborn, and often very humorless, much to our halfling friend's amusement.
-
- Next, there was Khyron, our halfling friend. For lack of a better
- term, I shall call him a thief. He termed himself a fighter with a few special
- abilities. Naturally, those special abilities easily got our whole group into
- trouble more often than not. However, Khyron was an adorable, incorrigable
- little man, looking like nothing more than a human child. He had a zest and
- enthusiasm for life, but often a disregard for danger.
-
- Marik Thelandarkin, mentioned before, was a mage. It was he who had
- learned of a plot to kill the 7 of us, and he had worked to gather us together
- with the aid of Blackstaff (the powerful wizard who helped us for reasons of
- his own, unknown to us). Marik is an elf, from the western sea coast, and
- again, he was young for his learning. He told us later he learned magic at an
- alarming rate compared to his compatriots, shocking the other elves who
- preferred to study at a more sedate pace. He also differed from the other
- elves in his interest in the world around him. At the time we first met, the
- elves were leaving the world, going into hiding it appeared, yet Marik didn't
- approve of their plan.
-
- We had a second mage, Wylderon Lordfinder, a gnome who preferred the
- magic of illusion. Wylderon came to us from the court and knew little of the
- wilds and warfare. He often seemed battle shy, for the ways were unknown to
- him and seemed unneccessarily rough. He also learned swiftly that courtly
- manners had little place in the real world where someone's word may not be
- true. Still, he had a way with illusion that often surprised the enemy into
- believing his spells were truly cast.
-
- Eloril Sebastian came to us a follower of Tymora, the Goddess of Luck
- and Fortune. His ways quickly gained him a follower from Khyron (what do
- halfling's revere more than luck?) and he was very devout in his ways,
- spreading the word of Tymora wherever we traveled. At first, though, he seemed
- a solemn human to me, and we knew very little about him.
-
- A human druid called Corbin Lewis traveled with us. His love for
- nature caused trouble in our group at first, for the city bred among us did not
- understand the ways of nature, as did those of us who had grown up in the
- forestlands. Corbin was quiet in his own ways, but always kind to the animals,
- usually sharing a tidbit of his meal.
-
- And finally, myself. As I stated before, I am called Tryslora Eloran.
- I am half-elven, raised in early childhood by my elven mother, but then
- orphaned by a raid upon my village. I ran into the forest and was found by
- Lharave, the Harper, who cared for me and trained me as a ranger. I had
- remained with her, although the outside world seemed to beckon to me, until the
- day when Marik and Blackstaff arrived.
-
- When we first met, we averaged but 16 human years (or the equivalent).
- All our mentors had noticed our aptitude for our chosen profession. We did not
- know it, but we were already being termed "The Young Ones" and there were those
- who moved to destroy us.
-
- Marik, studying hard at the magical academy, learned of a plot against
- himself and others. Realizing that something very strange was happening, he
- researched the situation and found that Malgrym, Corbin, Eloril, Khyron,
- Wylderon and myself were in like danger. In his attempts to contact us, he was
- aided by Blackstaff the mage, who helped Marik travel to contact us. One by
- one Blackstaff carried Marik and his growing group of companions to meet each
- of us and convince us of the danger that awaited us. Some of us could not
- believe that our friends could endanger us, but still, there was something
- compelling about the situation so we all accompanied Marik.
-
- Once we seven were present, Blackstaff ended our journey in the midst
- of a large desert. He simply left us there, stating that he could aid us no
- farther, but letting us know where we were. We stood upon the warm sands,
- staring at each other, at our strange new companions and began the
- introductions. This occurred on April 14th, in the Year of Shadows.
